The Study Centre of Jharkhand State Open University (JSOU) at Ghatsila College, Ghatsila, is envisioned as an important centre for providing accessible, flexible and quality higher education opportunities to learners in Ghatsila and the surrounding areas of East Singhbhum district.

The Study Centre aims to extend the benefits of open and distance learning to students, working professionals, teachers, homemakers and other learners who may not be able to pursue conventional full-time higher education. By bringing university programmes closer to the local community, the centre contributes towards the broader objectives of inclusive education, lifelong learning and skill development.

The centre facilitates academic support to enrolled learners through counselling sessions, academic guidance, study materials, learner support services, practical guidance wherever applicable, and examination-related assistance in accordance with the rules and academic framework of Jharkhand State Open University.

Located at Ghatsila College, Ghatsila, the Study Centre benefits from an established educational environment and provides learners with access to academic infrastructure and a conducive atmosphere for higher learning. It also has the potential to serve learners from Ghatsila, Musabani, Ghatshila subdivision and adjoining rural and semi-urban areas.

Objectives of the Study Centre

• To promote accessible and affordable higher education in the region.

• To provide opportunities for continuing and lifelong education.

• To support learners who are unable to attend regular classroom-based programmes.

• To facilitate academic counselling and learner support.

• To encourage skill development and employability-oriented education.

• To expand higher education opportunities among learners from rural and economically disadvantaged communities.

• To support the objectives of NEP 2020, particularly flexibility, multidisciplinary learning and wider access to education.

• To contribute to the educational and socio-economic development of the Ghatsila region and East Singhbhum district.

The JSOU Study Centre at Ghatsila College represents an important step towards strengthening the higher-education ecosystem of the region. Through the open and distance learning system, learners can pursue higher education with greater flexibility while continuing their employment, family responsibilities or other professional commitments.
